those of you who have known me for a minute know that i have been actively dreaming this event to life since all the way back when. woven through and from the original magyk of 'Late Night Temple' at DNE, the Frolic explorations at dawn in the fae filled fields of Tilson, 'Rhythm Oasis', and all the madness and tribal euphoria of the early 'Body Temple' days.... Church is both a continuance and an arrival, the realization of a well cherished dream and its continued unfolding.
i am well pleased that Mikio will be by my side co-hosting Church and taking a turn on the sonic pulpit. both Mikio and i caught direct inspiration from 'Body And Soul' at Vinyl and Danny K's offshoot '718 Sessions'. we were blessed with an intimate first hand view, as we were both enlisted in the Metrosound army that built and maintained that epic system at Vinyl. to be clear, we take the musical journey in quite a different way than those guys, but the spirit of tolerance within an open community, the dedication to excellence in production, and a beautiful community gathered around the love of music and dance is what we took from those days.
we welcome you into the sunday afternoon warmth of GrandSpace, filled with flowers and divans and beautiful music you have never heard. lounging nooks, a spring-loaded dance floor and a uniquely exquisite sonic journey. explore dance, movement and community as we break it down for you in a soul dub style, and then build it up to a cascading crescendo, as we slide into evening for the final bounce of the weekend ride.
(my vision is to to see this evolve into an open weekly gathering for new york's dance community. procedural aside: if this concept is tickling the exciter antenna of any organizational uber-rockstars in the congregation, pm me and we can discuss possible paths down the rabbit hole.)

(black horned top hat pokes out just above brim high from hole in the ground exposing eyes squinting from unaccustomed sunlight)
most appropriate that this thread announcing the re-instigation of our community's gatherings of funky pious sacrilege should be the door through which I re-emerge.
(why did a freek so known for verbiage have abandoned along with most other forms of civilized human interaction, this, the Shangri-La of chatter? this requires a blog post so check in later)
most excited I am to see, talk, dance, puddle, eat dark chocolate, worship love and drop beats at CHuRCH with all my beloved freeklings.

We gotz a Mikio tenderly climbing from out of his cave, and a proud Tiggrr back to her old stomping grounds to celebrate another year's turn around the lovely wheel of her being... and our Haj i ji home in his headphones upon the delicate task of selecting creating honing tweaking the very sounds of our rapture, that will soon warm us through the core.
back home to Grandspace, turning winterwards, we bring you flowers and love and music for your pleasure, like the kind ones before us.
so much Gratitude for this community, as it grows its roots ever wider across this world, and for the chance to come home for a time, to celebrate freekstyle pure.

Mon, January 7, 2008 - 3:10 PMThe beloved freek estate of GrandSpace will be a home to Church for the immediate future or at least as long as that little piece of Brooklyn's ongoing resistance to Mordorization allows. We notice however that there are up to 5 Sundays a month and are most definetly contemplating booty shaking irreverent reverence in other spaces and in collaboration with other communities. More on this note from the good Rev Hajiji in this thread in weeks to come. -

Thought it was time for a few acknowledgments:
- Sefirah and Tiggrr put in days of low sleep deep space cleaning, space rearrangement, alter construction, flower arrangement, ADD Dj maintenance and still manage to rock the floor when the beats drop. Their hard work, camaraderie, staunch support, inspired dance and inspiring beauty are wings that make ChuRCH physically & energetically soar. {{{Mad Love 4ever!}}}
- Grand Space residents open up their home and the many of whom share in the labor of love. {{{So much gratitude!}}}
- The Good Rev Hajijji Freekimus Maximus the first, patriarch of the Holy Order of Booty Spanking and first amongst bathroom scrubbers and stair moppers. {{{ChuRCH = Haj = Haj = ChuRCH = Haj = ChuRCH, etc. Get it?}}} Enjoying the dickens out of this latest curve of divine insanity mah boy has got us into. Still inspired and amused after all these years. :-)

Haj, Tiggz, and beyond, I strongly support weekly church. In SF and Santa Cruz, I've been goin to weekly or every other weekly dance jams/church! It really creates community and connections quickly, as you are seeing.
Just wanted to throw down my support and prayers for this manifestation to hit our family.

Sat, January 26, 2008 - 4:49 PMi believe we shall have a "skinny legs and all" kind of climax wherein our own kind of dance of the seven veils is performed by the whole congregation whilst the superbowl is raged in the next room , the home town giants against the mighty as yet-undefeated warriors 2boot. . .
of course, my wager is on the dance, but i'm a sports appreciator deep at heart and even in the many years of my cultivated disgust for american football as epitomized on superbowl sunday, i've seen the holiday as a great opportunity to tap into a kind of energycurrent of collective focused hype and do something wildly creative with it . . .
i do hope yall come out and dance wildly not so much in defiance of football fever but in living celebration of the spirit of fervor most of the culture will be enjoying vicariously . . .
i'm excited to ride that current withyall in the throes of the dance!

Wed, February 6, 2008 - 1:13 AMLove to all who ducked out on Super Bowl Sunday to celebrate, meditate, gyrate and activate with us at CHuRCH.
Grand Space residents once again opened up their homes and lent their strong muscles to set up.
Jess, Tiggrr & Haj rocked every role possible to build a temple of flowers, fabric, pheromones and funk.
Eduardo lovingly surprised us by serving delicious food to all in the warmth following the final beats.
Spiro ripped on guitar, bouzouki and this amazing sitar/guitar that just blew me away.
Haj pushed the limits once again with how musically one could craft a cohesive & deep journey from seemingly distantly juxtaposed genres and sound pallet's. Keepin up with that freek is going to keep me busy for the rest of my life.
Hannah Thiem's violin blessed our beats with her exquisite, painfully beautiful gypsy song.
Ya know it's pretty hard to turn a DJ's head when your heart's experience of goddess presence is set on the regular by the freek creatures but I am so spoiled right now from a couple of weekends of regular gypsyfication of my sets my heads been turning like a weather vane in a cyclone. I must admit I've been humming new-jack north african/balkan string hooks and holding red against a fishnet backdrop as the raiment of music herself. The giants may have won the Super Bowl but I'm afraid Boston has got the prize. Her bands name is Copal.
